What to eat before and after yoga: a simple beginner guide

August 11, 2026 · 1 min read

What you eat around your practice makes a real difference to how you feel. You don’t need a special diet — just a little timing and common sense. Here’s a simple guide for beginners.

Before yoga

Practise on a fairly empty stomach — ideally two hours after a meal. If you’re hungry, a small snack like a banana, a few nuts, or a date gives gentle energy without weighing you down.

After yoga

Within an hour, have something light and nourishing — fruit, yogurt, a warm dal, or a balanced meal. Your body is open and absorbing, so keep it wholesome.

Water matters most

Sip water through the day, but avoid gulping large amounts right before practice. Warm water after class helps digestion and calm.

Keep it simple

Fresh, light, home-cooked food supports a steady practice far more than any supplement.

Practise consistently and the rest follows naturally. See the classes.
